Suprasl 2024 - International Gathering of Orthodox Youth

This summer Orthodox young adults from around the world will gather at the Orthodox Academy and the Monastery of the Annunciation in Suprasl, Poland from June 30 - July 8 for the third annual World Gathering of Orthodox Youth.

Organised by Suprasl: A World Fellowship of Orthodox Youth in conjunction with the OrthNet, and in partnership with other Orthodox youth organisations in Poland and throughout Europe, the aim of the gathering is to bring together young adults from Orthodox churches worldwide to experience the unity and universality of the Orthodox Church and to encourage each other in their faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and their membership in the Orthodox Church.

The nine-day event will explore the theme, “It is Time for the Lord to Act: Liturgy and Creation” through workshops, lectures, art, film, music and practical activities. A multi-track format will offer a variety of workshops in several areas and will survey the ways in which Jesus Christ acts in the world and the ways we act, and should act in return. Workshop topics will include practical ecological projects for individuals, families and parishes; a survey of the Divine Services of the Church and the place of the natural world in their texts and practice; the teaching of the Church on environmental issues and how we are called to act, discussing and teaching about moral issues; responding to those of other faith traditions and more.

Workshop leaders and presenters will include Fr Nilos Nellis (Canada), Elizabeth Theokritoff (UK), Ari Koponen (Finland), Fr. Vladimir Misijuk (Poland) Ksenia Medvedeva (Belarus/Poland), Aleksandra Stevanovic (Serbia).

Participants of Suprasl 2024 will also visit the famous monastery of Saint Mary and Martha on the Holy Mountain of Grabarka, and the well-know Bialowieza Forest, the oldest strictly preserved medieval forest in Europe, along with other sacred and cultural sites in Eastern Poland.

“Suprasl 2024 is a unique event in the Orthodox world that brings together Orthodox youth from all of the various churches of the Orthodox family, from all parts of the world”, said Archdeacon Joseph Matusiak, project organizer. “We are confident that the young adults who will participate will take advantage of this opportunity to share ideas, explore common issues and build new relations and networks that will equip them to continue to grow in their faith and actively minister to their communities.”

The heart of Suprasl 2024 will be worship and prayer. Participants will be able to attend the morning and evening monastic services at the Monastery of the Annunciation, as well as corporate morning prayers and evening prayers with the gathering’s participants. Clergy will be available each evening for confession, and each morning a brief homily will be offered on the scripture of the day. Suprasl 2022 will conclude with the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, July 24.
